PREP BASKETBALL: Forks’ Adams is Evergreen boys co-MVP; Gooding Coach of the Year

FORKS — Forks’ Marky Adams was named co-Most Valuable Player of the Evergreen League this week.

Adams, a 6-9 post, was named boys basketball co-MVP along with Jace Varner of Hoquiam.

Adams has come on especially strong late in the season averaging double figures in rebounds while also averaging 25.7 points a game over his past six games.

For the season, Adams is averaging 17 points per game (19.5 per game in league), 13 rebounds and 3.5 blocks.

Forks coach Rick Gooding also was named the Evergreen 1A Coach of the Year. Gooding helped lead the Spartans to a 6-2 record (15-7 overall) in the Evergreen 1A League, good for second place.

The Spartans’ Parker Browning also made the first team all-league squad. Browning is averaging 17 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game this season.

Senior Jeffrey Schumack was a second team all-league selection.

Spartans making the Evergreen 1A honorable mention team were sophomore Cort Prose and junior Cole Baysinger.

DeMatties all-league

FORKS — Forks’ Skyler DeMatties was named to the Evergeen League’s All-Evergreen League girls basketball second-team.

DeMatties was the only Spartan girls player to make the team.
