CHIMACUM — The East Jefferson boys basketball team won its second game of the season, beating 2A North Mason 65-60 in overtime at home in Chimacum behind big games from Brody Moore and Austen Hammer.
“The kids competed tonight and just kept coming back and not giving up,” said coach Emmanuel Abbott.
Abbott said the shots weren’t falling for top scorer Lonnie Kenney.
“But he found players open with some great passes, plus his defense was a spark and when it counted he had six points in OT,” Abbott said.
Hammer got the Rivals going early by making three 3-pointers in the first quarter, while Moore also had a good game.
“Brody Moore came alive last night also making some threes and handling the ball,” Abbott said. “Keidan Guzman played a great second half running the point at 6-foot-5 and getting to the basket. Cade Martin’s all-around hustle gets the guys going with his rebounding and defense.”
East Jefferson (2-5) is off until Jan. 4 when the Rivals begin play again by taking on Charles Wright on the road.
Port Angeles 76, Bainbridge 56
BAINBRIDGE — The Port Angeles boys basketball team, still without 6-foot-10 center John Vaara, relied on its stifling defense to beat 3A Bainbridge 76-56 on the road Tuesday.
Bainbridge is not only a 3A team but came into Tuesday’s game with a 4-2 record. The win keeps the Riders perfect in league.
“The defense was really dialed in,” said coach Kasey Ulin. “We had great defensive intensity.”
Because of that great defense, the Roughriders had 23 points in transition. The team also had 23 assists and outrebounded the Spartans by 20.
Wyatt Dunning led the Riders with 22 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks. Xander Maestas was right behind with 21 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
Parker Nickerson had 17 points, seven rebounds, five steals and three assists, while Quanah Wheeler had 11 points and 10 assists.
About the only thing Ulin wasn’t happy with was the Riders’ turnovers. He said the team would have scored 90 if not for the turnovers.
The Roughriders’ scheduled game at Bremerton on Wednesday was postponed. Port Angeles (2-0, 3-3) will next play at the Yakima Shootout on Tuesday, continuing the Riders’ exceptionally tough nonleague schedule. All three of the Roughriders’ losses this year are against 4A schools.
Port Angeles will first play against Zillah, the No. 2-ranked team in 1A. The Riders will follow up by playing Lynden on Wednesday, the No. 3-ranked 2A team in the state.

Crescent 59, Concrete 39
CONCRETE — Connor Ferro-May had a huge 27-point game as Crescent improved to 5-2 on the season with a 59-39 road win Tuesday over Concrete.
“Conner Ferro-May was a beast inside. He was able to get loose and finish inside repeatedly and got into a bit of a scoring battle with their big guy,” said coach Chris Ferrier.
“We jumped on them from the get go,” Ferrier said. “Our defense is still a work in progress but we did a good job until the fourth when we had a bit of a letdown with a nice lead. They made a little run at us there in the fourth but we did enough intelligent things to get us to the finish line.”
Hayden Ferrel and Weston Hart each scored nine points for the Loggers, while Brayden Emery scored 10.
“Our guards Hayden Ferrel, Conner Bauers and Brayden Emery were able to get the ball to the paint with the dribble and the pass and we finished pretty well,” Ferrier said.
The Loggers are off for a week and return to action Tuesday in the Crescent Winter Tournament against Bush.
Girls basketball Neah Bay 52, Forks 42
FORKS — The Red Devils outworked the Spartans for a road victory in a close girls basketball contest Tuesday.
Neah Bay worked the offensive glass to build upon its 3-point halftime lead.
“They didn’t change much up [after halftime], what it came down to especially in that third quarter is we didn’t take care of the basketball,” Forks coach David Hurn said. “Neah Bay just wanted it more than us, they bullied us around which was a little disappointing. Especially on our home court.
“In that third quarter we were outrebounded 18-8 and 10 were offensive rebounds.”
Ocean Aguirre led the Red Devils with 14 points while Allie Greene added 10.
The Spartans trimmed Neah Bay’s lead to four early in the fourth quarter, but that was as close as they would come.
“We had some momentum but we gave up too many easy buckets by not rotating or hustling back defensively,” Hurn said.
Keira Johnson led all scorers with 22 for Forks (2-1, 3-3).
The Spartans host Clallam Bay on Dec. 30.
Neah Bay (3-1) plays Rainier Christian at the Mount Vernon Christian Christmas Tourney on Tuesday.
