CLALLAM BAY — The Clallam Bay basketball girls wrapped up their regular season on a seven-game winning streak, crushing Chief Kitsap in their finale 82-12.
The Bruins had five girls in double figures. Miriam Wonderly led the Bruins with 18 points, eight assists, seven steals, while Sidney Smith had 17 points and six rebounds and Cedar Johnson had 16 points and four steals in just two quarters.
Hannah Olson and Jada Clemmons each added 10 points.
“We worked on few different things and played the girls at positions that they normally don’t play trying to get ready for playoffs,” said coach Michael Maines.
“Super impressed with the three freshmen (Johnson, Clemmons and Smith) and the way they have gelled with the other girls, the future is bright for a few years to come, for the Bruins. They have worked very hard all year and it’s nice to see them have success,” Maines said.
The Bruins (7-2, 13-6) begin postseason play red-hot. Over the past seven games, the Bruins have outscored their opponents 456-182 (by an average score of 65-26). One of their wins late last month in their streak was over Neah Bay, which snapped the Red Devils’ own 13-game winning streak. Clallam Bay will play Saturday in the Tri-District 1B Tournament at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Port Angeles High School gym.
They will play the No. 5 seed from District 2, which will be the winner of a Sea-Tac 1B Tournament game Thursday between Quilcene (12-10) and Tacoma Baptist (6-15). Quilcene has beaten Tacoma Baptist twice this season by large margins, so there is a good chance it will be the Rangers facing the Bruins.
That Tri-District game is a loser-out contest. If the Clallam Bay girls win Saturday, they play Tuesday in the second round of the tournament against an opponent to be determined.
