CHIMACUM — For the second time this season, the Sequim and East Jefferson baseball teams got themselves into a wild, high-scoring affair, with the Wolves coming out on top 16-14 on Tuesday.
The game featured a total of 25 hits. In two games this season, the Wolves and Rivals combined for 64 runs with Sequim winning both games.
East Jefferson was able to get up on Sequim 10-5, but the Wolves rallied with an eight-run fifth inning to take the lead. Devyn Dearinger pitched the final two innings, allowing just one East Jefferson hit and striking out two to finally quiet the Rivals’ bats.
Rhian Popp led the Rivals, going 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and four RBIs. Brody Moore was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs, while Rylan Dunn was 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Devon Bennett-Anderson was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Nate Naylor had three RBIs.
Popp started and struggled to quiet the Wolves’ bats. Cash Holmes pitched well, going 1⅔ innings and allowing no hits, while striking out one. Bennett-Anderson pitched 1⅔ innings and allowed two earned runs. He gave up three hits while striking out two.
For the Wolves, Dearinger was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI. Lincoln Bear was 2-for-5 with a triple, two runs scored and four RBIs. Zeke Schmadeke was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI.
Hunter Tennell had a hit, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Ricky Jennings was 2-for-2 with a run scored and two walks. Ayden Holland was 1-for-1 with two runs scored, an RBI and two walks.
With the win, the Wolves (5-9, 10-9) guarantee they will finish at .500 or above after starting the season 3-7. They wrap up the season at Olympic (8-6, 11-8) on Thursday, then the Wolves sit back and wait to see if they make the district tournament as a wild card.
East Jefferson (1-17) played at Vashon today after press deadline. The Rivals wrap up their season at Chimacum with a doubleheader against Charles Wright at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

ILWACO — The Forks Spartans wrapped up their league season in rough fashion Tuesday, getting swept on the road 9-5 and 27-1 by Pacific 2B League champion Ilwaco.
Despite the sweep, the Spartans finished third in the Pacific 2B League with a 6-2 record (8-6 overall) and will move on to the district postseason tournament. Forks has only played 14 games this season because of rainouts.
In the first loss, the Spartans’ Emmanuel Hernandez-Stansbury was 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and three RBIs.
Dylan Micheau went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a double. Walker Wheeler was also 2-for-4.
The game was close until the bottom of the sixth when Ilwaco scored three runs.
Gunner Rogers went all the way on the mound for the Spartans, allowing seven hits and five earned runs. He struck out five and walked two.
In the second game, the Fighting Fishermen scored 20 runs in the second inning as Forks’ pitchers struggled with walks and the defense made seven errors. Forks got hits from Micheau and Rogers and an RBI from Aiden Salazar.
Forks will try to get back on track with a final regular season game at Wahkiakum on Saturday.
