SEQUIM — Nigel Christian homered and Gavin Velarde turned a walk into the winning run as Sequim overcame a six-run deficit to defeat Kingston 7-6 in Olympic League baseball action.
The winless Buccaneers (0-3, 0-4) put up two runs in the first and four more in the second to take a 6-0 lead over the Wolves, who entered the game on a two-game losing streak.
Sequim (2-2, 5-3) began chipping away at the lead with three runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Evan Hurn doubled and scored, Christian reached on an error and came around on Dusty Bates’ single, and Tanner Rhodefer singled and scored the third run.
The Wolves then added a run apiece in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Hurn tripled and scored in the third.
Rhodefer singled, stole second and scored from second on Bates’ single in the fourth to decrease the deficit to 6-5.
Christian then came up with two outs in the bottom of the fifth and tied the game with a shot to right-center field.
In the sixth, Velarde walked and advanced to second on a fielder’s choice. He then stole third base and scored the winning run on a passed ball.
James Grubb recovered from his shaky start to keep the Buccaneers off the scoreboard in the third and fourth innings.
Austin Hilliard relieved Grubb and fanned three batters while holding Kingston scoreless over three innings to earn the win.
Sequim’s game Friday with Anacortes has been postponed, so the Wolves are off until their road tilt against North Mason (1-3, 4-6) on Tuesday.

Klahowya 10, Chimacum 2
CHIMACUM — The winless Cowboys played the undefeated Eagles closely until Klahowya put up five runs over the final two innings.
The Eagles scored two in the first and three in the second to take a quick 5-0 lead.
“We gave up five runs in the first two innings, then Myles Hundley came in and gave us three strong scoreless innings to keep us in the game,” Chimacum coach Andy Lingle said of Monday’s Olympic League 1A matchup.
The Cowboys got back in the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second.
In the third, Lane Dotson hit a double to right field, but Chimacum was unable to capitalize.
“After that, we couldn’t get anything else going,” Lingle said.
A couple of walks and an error in the sixth inning led to four Klahowya runs that made the score 9-2. The Eagles added one more in the seventh.
“We played them tough, and we are making progress, which I am pleased with,” Lingle said.
“We need to cut down the walks and be a bit more aggressive with our approach, and good things will come.”
Ari Pape-Uphoff and Logan Shaw each had a hit and drove in a run for Chimacum.
The Cowboys (0-1, 0-6) play at Port Townsend (0-1, 0-3) today at 4 p.m.
