PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles baseball team was on its way to a home-and-way sweep over Olympic League rival North Kitsap, but one bad inning in the sixth cost the Roughriders as the Vikings came from behind to win 7-6 on Tuesday.
On Monday, the Riders beat the Vikings 1-0 in a tight pitchers’ duel. While it was still a one-run game, there was much more offense Tuesday with 16 total hits by both teams.
The Riders got up 6-0 after four innings. North Kitsap roared back with seven runs in the sixth. The Riders played a clean game defensively for most of the game, but made three critical errors in that tough sixth inning. Only two of North Kitsap’s runs ended up being earned.
Colton Romero started and went four innings, allowing just three hits while striking out three. He allowed no runs.
Brian Guttormsen pitched an inning, allowing two hits and two earned runs. He struck out one. Rylan Politika pitched an innings, allowing two hits and striking out one. Kaleb Mullen pitched an inning, allowing a hit and striking out two.
Alex Angevine led the Riders at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, a walk and a stolen base. Elijah Flodstrom was 2-for-4 with a run scored, RBI and stolen base. Luke Flodstrom had a hit and two RBIs, while Kole Acker had a hit and an RBI.
Jordan Shumway added a double and Mullen had a hit, a run scored and a walk.
Port Angeles (3-2, 3-3) next plays some non-league games over spring break, beginning with a game at 3A Central Kitsap on Saturday in. The Riders host South Whidbey at Civic Field at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Sequim 10, Kingston 2
SEQUIM — The Sequim baseball team got an outstanding game both on the mound and at the plate from Toppy Robideau in dominating Kingston 10-2.
Robideau started the game and went six innings, allowing only one hit and no earned runs. He struck out seven and walked one. Braydan White came in to pitch the ninth, allowing a walk and striking out two.
At the plate, Robideau went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs. White also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
Brett Mote went 2-for-5 with two runs scored whole Bryant LaBoy went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Zeke Schmadeke had a hit, two walks, a run scored and two stolen bases.
Sequim (1-4, 3-4) played at Kingston Wednesday in a home-and-away series. The Wolves are off for spring break until April 11 when they face Port Angeles at Civic Field.
Forks 20, Chief Leschi 0 Forks 17, Chief Leschi 0
FORKS — Forks didn’t allow a hit in a doubleheader sweep over a badly outmatched Chief Leschi team Tuesday.
The Spartans won the Pacific 2B League opener 20-0 behind a perfect three-inning game from Aiden Salazar. Salazar struck out four.
Salazar also had five RBIs, with a double, a single, three stolen bases and three runs scored. Landen Olson was 3-for-4 with four runs scored, two stolen bases and two runs. Dylan Micheau had a hit, two walks, an RBI and three runs scored. Gunner Rogers had seven stolen bases and three runs scored.
In the second game, the Spartans got two innings of no-hit pitching from Landen Olson. He struck out six and walked one.
Walker Wheeler hit a triple and drove in four runs while stealing three bases and scoring three runs. Ryan Rancourt hit a double with two stolen bases, two runs scored and an RBI, while Rogers had a hit, two runs scored and an RBI. He added another four steals for 11 on the day.
Forks (2-1, 4-2) should get a tougher challenge Saturday, hosting 1A Hoquiam at 2 p.m. at Fred Orr Park for a nonleague game.
Softball North Kitsap 4, Sequim 0
SEQUIM — The Sequim softball team played undefeated North Kitsap tough, but couldn’t generate a lot of offense against the Vikings’ Cerenity Fake, who pitched a complete-game shutout in a 4-0 win.
It was the Wolves’ first Olympic League loss. North Kitsap came into Tuesday’s game 5-0 and averaging 15 runs a game.
Sequim’s Lainey Vig kept the Vikings in check for most of the game. She went six innings and allowing seven hits and two earned runs while striking out three.
The Wolves had four hits. Vig, Mia Pozernick, Lexi King and Angel Wagner all had singles.
Sequim (2-1, 2-2) next plays at home at 4:15 p.m. today against North Mason (1-1, 2-1).
In other softball games Tuesday, Forks swept Chief Leschi 26-0 and 22-3 to improve to 3-1 in Pacific 2B League play and 5-3 overall.
A softball game at Olympic High School between Port Angeles and Olympic was suspended in the bottom of the third inning and the score tied 2-2 “due to an incident involving the Olympic coaches and spectators. The umpires left the field, ultimately ending the game,” according to coach Morgan Worthington.
The Olympic League athletic directors, umpire association and potentially the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association are expected to make a determination on how to proceed with this game.
