PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Forks doubles up Crosspoint

Sequim, Port Angeles drop nonleague games

SILVERDALE — The Forks baseball team got big game from Landen Olson, Kingston Steffen and Lane Helvey to rally in the sixth and seventh innings to beat Crosspoint 8-4 in a nonleague game.

Forks went into the sixth inning tied 3-3, then scored three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to pull out the victory.

Steffen had an RBI single in the sixth to give the Spartans the lead. He added a two-run single in the seventh to pad the Spartans’ advantage. Steffen also stole two bases and scored a run.

Olson, meanwhile, went 3-for-4 on the day with three stolen bases, two RBIs and a run scored.

Helvey pitched the entire game, allowing five hits and two earned runs. He struck out four.

Jeremy Hutto had a hit, a run scored and an RBI, while Logan Ramsey hit a double, stole two bases and scored a run.

Forks (2-2, 3-3) next hosts North Beach (1-1, 1-4) at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday.

North Thurston 4, Port Angeles 0

PORT ANGELES —The Port Angeles baseball team got an excellent pitching performance from five pitchers who only allowed five hits, but the Roughriders couldn’t push a run across in a 4-0 nonleague loss against North Thurston.

The Riders had six hits, with Nathan Basden going 2-for-3. Alex Angevine, Kody Williams, Jordan Shumway and Brandt Perry all had singles.

On the mound, Maeson Grice with two innings without allowing a run, giving up two hits and striking out one. Angevine went an inning, allowing no hits while striking out two.

Port Angeles (2-3, 2-6-2) next plays at Olympic League-leading North Kitsap (6-0, 7-2) on Tuesday, then hosts the Vikings at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday at Civic Field.

Friday’s Game River Ridge 6, Sequim 1

LACEY — The Sequim baseball team found itself locked in a tough pitchers battle into the bottom of the fifth inning, but 3A River Ridge scored four runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull away for a 6-1 win.

Bryant Laboy pitched great as the starter, going four innings and allowing four hits and two earned runs while striking out two.

The Wolves managed just five hits with Laboy going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. Ethan Staples had a hit and a run scored, while Duran Ward had a hit and an RBI.

Sequim (3-3, 3-6) returns to Olympic League action with a game Tuesday at Olympic (2-4, 4-5). The Wolves host Olympic at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Thursday’s Game Quilcene 16, Pope John Paul II 3

QUILCENE — The Quilcene baseball team pounded out 20 hits and allowed just three in a 20-3 victory over Pope John Paul II to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Oliver Hopkins had a big day, going 4-for-5 with a double, four stolen bases, four runs scored and an RBI. Jayden Love was 4-for-5 with three runs scored, while Aiden Cate was 3-for-5 with a run scored and Jayden Minish was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored.

Eli Allen hit two doubles, scored three runs and drove in two, while Logan Carstensen hit a double and scored a run.

On the mound, Allen and Hopkins combined to strike out 16 batters. Quilcene pitchers have struck out 35 batters in the Rangers’ past two games. Allen went three innings, allowing no hits and striking out seven, while Hopkins went four innings, allowed three hits and an earned run while striking out nine.

Quilcene (3-0) next plays at Crosspoint on Monday.
