PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles baseball team moved on from its first-round bi-district playoff game, beating Franklin Pierce 8-5 .
The Roughriders played Wednesday in a second-round game against league opponent Olympic. The game was after press deadline.
In Tuesday’s win, the Riders only had two strikeouts all day.
“We put the ball in play and hit the ball hard,” said coach Casey Dietz.
Elijah Flodstrom started the game, going 4⅔ innings and striking out five. He allowed two hits and two earned runs while walking five. “He had a little trouble with his command. Our defense made a lot of nice plays,” Deitz said.
Beckett Jarnagin pitched the final 2⅓, giving up four hits, an earned run and two walks. He struck out three.
The heart of the Port Angeles order carried the team offensively. Jarnagin was also 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Flodstrom was 2-for-3 with an RBI while John Vaara was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Riders have lost twice to Olympic this year, 11-6 early in the season and 3-2 earlier in May on an Olympic walk-off. Deitz said the Roughriders know they can play Olympic tough after that second game.
“When we play well, we have a chance to play with anyone,” he said.
Because the Riders are a No. 9 seed in the 16-team bi-district tournament, they must win four straight to qualify for regionals. There is no double elimination. If Port Angeles wins Wednesday, the Riders next play at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Foss High School. Their first game would be against the winner of Orting and Sammamish.
Napavine 17, Forks 4
LONGVIEW — The Forks baseball team lost its first game of the year, but the Spartans remain alive in the Southwest 2B District tournament.
The Spartans lost to Napavine 17-4, allowing 12 runs in the first two innings. Napavine held Forks to just five hits. Dalton Kilmer had a pair of hits and three stolen bases. Logan Olson, Logan Urvina and Ryan Rancourt all had hits.
Urvina, coming off a perfect game last week, started the game and took the loss.
Despite the loss, the Spartans (14-1) are still in good shape for a trip to regionals. Forks next plays Ilwaco at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Adna High School. If the Spartans win, they move on to Regionals. Forks swept Ilwaco (16-8) in a doubleheader earlier this year 19-3 and 13-11.

Port Angeles 12, Kingston 1
KINGSTON — The Port Angeles softball team got a two-hitter from the duo of Teagan Clark and Heidi Leitz in a 12-1 win over Kingston.
Clark pitched four innings, allowing two hits and no walks. She struck out three. Leitz pitched an inning, allowing no hits and striking out one.
Clark also went 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs. Lily Halberg was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Emi Halberg was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Zoe Smithson had a hit, a run scored and two walks. Cheyenne Zimmer had a hit, a walk and two runs scored. Cydne Moore had a hit and a run scored.
The Roughriders (10-1, 15-1), ranked No. 1 in Ratings Percentage Index in the state, are trying to make up a lot of rained-out games this week. They were set to play at Bremerton on Wednesday then are scheduled to wrap up their regular season with a makeup game at 4:15 p.m. today at Dry Creek against North Kitsap (9-3, 11-4) and against Sequim (6-5, 10-5) at Dry Creek at 4:15 p.m. Friday. The chance of rain today is 90 percent, while the chance of rain Friday is 50 percent.
The bi-district tournament begins on May 20 with the Riders seeking a possible No. 1 seed.
