PREP BASEBALL: Port Angeles’ bats erupt in 14-3 win over Orting

Forks duo fires a one-hitter against Coupeville

ORTING — The Port Angeles baseball team has been relying heavily upon baserunning, team speed and fantastic bunting to manufacture runs this season, but against Orting, the Roughriders pounded away in their best offensive showing of the year.

The Riders belted 11 hits and beat Orting 14-3 in a nonleague game Friday in their highest-scoring game of the year.

Port Angeles did all of its damage in the third and fourth innings, scoring eight runs in the third and six in the fourth.

Several Riders had good days at the plate. Nate Basden was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk, while Luke Flodstrom was 2-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and three RBIs. Trae Hanan was 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI.

Kody Williams hit a triple and drove in three runs with a run scored. Alex Angevine was 1-for-2 with two runs scored, two stolen bases, two walks and an RBI, and finally Josiah Gooding whad a hit, a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs.

On the mound, a trio of pitchers allowed just six hits. Hunter Stratford went three innings, allowing three hits and striking out two. Brandt Perry pitched one innings, striking out two and Carston Seibel pitched an innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs.

Port Angeles (4-6, 5-10-1) has an important pair of games coming up Tuesday and Wednesday against last-place Bremerton (1-9, 4-11). A sweep of these two games could hugely help the Roughriders’ playoff positioning as they have a chance to move into third place. The first game takes place at 4:15 p.m. at Civic Field and the second is in Bremerton.

COUPEVILLE — The Forks baseball team got a shutout one-hit pitching performance from Titus Rowley and Connor Clark in an 8-0 win over Coupeville, part of a doubleheader split against the Wolves.

Coupeville won the second game 12-4. It was a nonleague doubleheader.

In the Spartans’ victory, Rowley went three innings, allowing no hits and striking out three. Clark pitched four innings, allowed one hit and struck out three.

Landen Olson went 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple, three runs scored, an RBI and a walk, while Mason Dent hit a pair of doubles and drove in four runs. He also scored a run. Jeremy Hutto had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored.

In the second game, Cordel Horejsi had a hit and two RBIs.

Forks (5-3, 7-5) has a big doubleheader coming up Tuesday at first-place Ilwaco (8-1, 10-2).

COUPEVILLE — The Forks softball team got solid pitching and was competitive in two games against Coupeville, but couldn’t push across many runs in a Wolves’ sweep over the Spartans 5-2 and 6-2.

In the first game, Bailey Johnson had a huge game for the Spartans. She was 3-for- with a home run, two doubles and a two RBIs. Chloe Gaydeski pitched well in defeat, going the entire game, striking out seven and allowing four earned runs while striking out 10.

In the second game, a pair of Forks pitchers allowed just four hits. Johnson went three innings, allowing one hit and two earned runs while striking out four. Gaydeski pitched three innings, allowing three hits and one earned run while striking out five.

At the plate, Fynlie Peters had a double and an RBI, while Gaydeski hit a double. Johnson had a hit, a run scored an RBI and two walks.

Forks (3-5, 7-8) next plays a Pacific 2B League doubleheader, hosting Ilwaco (4-4, 7-4) at 3 p.m. with a chance to move up in the league standings.
