PREP BASEBALL: Forks’ Logan Olson named Pacific 2B League MVP

FORKS — Forks senior Logan Olson capped off his high school career by being named the Pacific 2B League MVP for baseball.

Olson was a three-sport star for the Spartans, starting for the basketball team and football team for multiple years.

Olson was a huge part of the Spartans’ Pacific 2B League championship. Forks went undefeated in league, went 17-2 on the season, finished third in the SW District 1/4 Tournament and qualified for state. In one of Olson’s most impressive performances, he went toe-to-toe with Toutle Lake’s Jackson Cox in the state tournament. Cox is a University of Oregon commit who ended up winning the game 4-0, striking out 15 batters. Olson went five shutout innings and struck out nine Toutle Lake batters to keep the Spartans in the game until the sixth inning when Toutle Lake finally broke through.

Olson was 5-0 in Pacific League play, striking out 49 batters in 25⅔ innings and had an ERA of 1.09. Overall, he was 7-1 with the Toutle Lake game his only loss. He struck out 84 batters and finished the season with a 1.86 ERA.

Olson also batted .541 on the season with a .661 on-base percentage, an .800 slugging percentage and an on-base plus slugging of 1.461.

The Forks coaching staff led by head coach Jason Richard was also named coaches of the year.

Making the league’s first team was Forks’ Gunner Rogers, one of only three sophomores on the first team, and Dalton Kilmer. Making the second team were Spartans Logan Urvina and Aiden Salazar, and making the honorable mention team were Riley Pursley and Ryan Rancourt.

Softball

FORKS — Forks’ Elizabeth Soto made the Pacific 2B League’s first team.

Despite the Spartans finishing third at state, they only got one player on the first team. Pe Ell-Willapa Valley, which ended up winning the state 2B championship, dominated the first-team selections with five.

Spartans Kyra Neel and Kadie Wood made the second team and Keira Johnson, Grace Gooding and Chloe Gaydeski all made the honorable mention team. Gooding and Gaydeski are both eighth-graders.

All of the Forks girls on the all-league teams will be back next season.
