PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles track and field girls tied for first place at the Port Angeles Invitational, while the Sequim boys finished a close second.
A total of eight schools participated in the meet. The Roughrider girls, who were strong in the distance events, tallied 137 team points, the same as North Kitsap. The Sequim boys won 11 events and finished with 133 points, second to North Kitsap’s 143.
The Port Angeles boys were third with 108 points, while the Clallam Bay girls were third with 77.
Sequim’s Riley Martin won two events, the 110-meter hurdles (In 15.78 seconds) and the 300-meter hurdles (43.81 seconds), while Forks’ Cole Baysinger won two individual events, the discus (129 feet, 1 inch) and the high jump (5-8) and Port Angeles’ Liam Clark won both the long jump (17-8 ¾) and the triple jump (40-8).
The Sequim 4×100 (Silas Isenberger, Logan Laxson, Darren Salazar, Alec Shingleton) and 4×400 (Isenberger, Trey Brouillard, Martin and Shingleton) relays both took first, in 45.783 and 3:40.3, respectively.
Other boys’ winners include:

• 200-meter dash — Isenberger, Sequim, 23.71
• 400-meter run — Brouillard, Sequim, 56.19
• 800-meter run — Shingleton, Sequim, 2:08.38
• 1,500-meter run — Murray Bingham, Sequim, 4:17.93.
For the girls, the Long sisters — Millie and Gracie — were busy for Port Angeles.
Millie Long won the 200-meter run (28.31) and the 300-meter hurdles (49.73), while Gracie Long won the 1,500-meter run (5:08.99), the high jump (4-8) and the 1,500-meter steeplechase in a school record time of 5:19.82.
Roughrider Maddie Dougherty also won the 800-meter run (2:35.11) and the 3,000-meter run (11:18.65) as it was a clean sweep in the distance events for Port Angeles. Technically, Port Angeles’ Lauren Larson won the 3,000 meters in a time of 11:18.62, but she is a freshman and was running as a junior varsity competitor, so Doughterty gets credit for varsity first place. Larson gets bragging rights.
“Maddie was the designated varsity runner. They both ran together the whole race averaging 93-second laps and then both ran a 77-second last lap and the straight-a-way duel was really thrilling. Neither would give in and they traded leads all the way. A classic,” said Port Angeles track coach Rob Sheedy
The Port Angeles 4×400 relay team of Dougherty, Gracie Long, Kenzie DeLeon and Lauren Larson won with a time of 4:44.12.
