Port Angeles Lefties rally to win series over Yakima Pippins

YAKIMA — Port Angeles and Yakima engaged in a version of “West Coast League After Dark” Wednesday as the Lefties picked up a 6-3 win and a series victory over the Pippins.

With temperatures still in the triple digits in Central Washington, first pitch was pushed back to 8:55 p.m., and the game didn’t conclude until 12:11 a.m.

The “After Dark” phrase references wild Pac-12 football contests with kickoffs of 7 p.m. or later.

Port Angeles got going offensively in the middle innings as a Carson Crawford solo home run and an RBI double by Luke Saunders in the top of the fifth put the Lefties up 2-1.

Yakima answered back with two runs in the home half of the inning to chase Port Angeles starter Kota Sato and reclaim the lead.

But the Lefties weren’t finished, loading the bases in the sixth on two walks and a hit batter.

Cal’s Trevor Tishenkel came through with a two-run single, and Crawford added a double for a 6-3 advantage.

Lefties’ relievers Preston Howey, Kaden Lewis and Zach Thomas allowed a combined two hits and three walks the rest of the way to preserve the victory.

Port Angeles (6-8) visits Bellingham (8-12) for the opener of a three-game holiday weekend set at 7:05 p.m. today.
