NANAIMO, B.C. — The Port Angeles Lefties completed their season on the road on a down note, getting swept in their final three games against West Coast League newcomer Nanaimo.
Nanaimo scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull out a 7-5 win over Port Angeles on Sunday. Two errors in the inning helped the Nanaimo rally and five errors overall led to five unearned runs by the NightOwls.
The Lefties also lost 7-1 on Saturday and 16-0 on Friday.
With the sweep, Port Angeles finished the season 20-34 overall. They were 11-15 in the first half and 9-18 in the second half.
The Lefties got hot toward the end of the second half of the season, winning six out of eight games at one point, but they finished the season with four straight losses.
In Sunday’s loss, Aaron Greenfield was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Anthony Kodama was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Hayden Driggs was 1-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.
The trio of Luke McCullough, Nelson Smith and Riley Wike pitched well for the Lefties, allowing just two earned runs on 10 hits, but errors hurt them. They walked five and struck out nine. Smith took the loss.

Friday, Saturday games
The NightOwls pitchers handled the Lefties in Friday and Saturday’s games, allowing just one run in the two games.
In Saturday’s game, the Lefties hit nine singles but only managed to plate one run on a Danny Briones RBI single. NightOwls pitchers Josh Laukkanen and Hayden Wilcox limited the damage by not allowing a single walk all game.
For the Lefties, Adam Paganelli was 1-for-2, stole a base and scored a run, while Kodama was 2-for-5.
On the mound, the Lefties didn’t pitch badly, giving up four earned runs and striking out 10. Andrew Monson started and took the loss. He went four innings, allowed seven hits, one walk and three earned runs. He struck out six. Brayden Hagerty (Olympic College) pitched in his first game of the year for the Lefties, going 2⅔ innings, allowing six hits, three walks and one earned run. He struck out two. Trey Maeker closed, going 1⅓ innings and allowing one hit. He struck out two.
The Lefties got walloped Friday night 16-0 in probably the team’s worst loss of the year.
Nanaimo had 15 hits, including two home runs, while Port Angeles had only three hits and struck out 14 times.
Paganelli, Maeker and Driggs all had singles.
Tommy Lockyear took the loss.
