PORT ANGELES LEFTIES: Lefties swept by Edmonton, begin road trip

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Lefties are still looking for offense after they were swept Thursday by the Edmonton Riverhawks 7-2.

The Lefties managed only five hits in the loss.

Edmonton scored five of its runs in the first inning, four of them on an Mark Ossanna grand slam, but after the first inning, Lefties’ pitchers bore down to only allow two more runs in the fourth. They struck out a total of 15 batters.

Jake Cumming (Nevada) started and took the loss, giving up five runs and nine walks in three innings. He did strike out six. Kailen Kimata (Pierce College) went three innings, allowing two runs on six hits. He struck out four.

Kyle Becker (Nevada) and CJ Lewis (Jackson State) pitched well. They went a combined three innings, allowing two hits and no runs or walks. They struck out five.

At the plate, Corey Jarrell (Vanguard University) was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, while Chase Taylor (Hawaii Pacific) hit a double. Mauricio Guardado (Los Angeles Mission College) had a hit and a run scored, while Julio Vasquez (Howard College) had an RBI.

The Lefties (4-14, 12-33) have their longest — as far as distance — road trip coming up. They began a three-game series at Bellingham (8-9, 28-16) on Friday, then travel to Edmonton for a three-game series Aug. 1-3. They return to Port Angeles on Aug. 4 for their final three-game home series against Bellingham.
