PORT ANGELES LEFTIES: Lefties shut out by AppleSox

WENATCHEE — A day after a bad game on the mound for the Port Angeles Lefties pitching staff, the Lefties got great pitching performances Tuesday, going into the bottom of the seventh locked in a 0-0 tie with Wenatchee.

But one big inning by the AppleSox cost the Lefties as Wenatchee went on to win 5-0.

Starter John Pfeffer (Cal State, San Bernardino) pitched a great game. He went five innings, allowed three hits and two walks and struck out 10. Cole Bakker (Pierce College) pitched a scoreless inning, allowing one hit and Andrew Monson pitched a scoreless 1⅔, allowing a hit. Nathan Criswell took the loss, getting touched up for four earned runs, all in the seventh inning.

In all, Lefties pitchers struck out 12, and allowed seven hits and four walks.

However, Port Angeles couldn’t generate any offense against Wenatchee’s Quincy Vassar and Connor Ashworth, who combined to strike out 16 Lefties. Ashworth struck out eight in just three innings. They allowed just four hits, all singles, and two walks.

Gabriel DeJesus (Wenatchee Valley College) had two hits, while Derek Bogh (Cal State, San Bernardino) and Riley Parker (Cal State, San Bernardino) each had hits. Bogh also had a stolen base and a walk.

The Lefties (3-4, 5-5) wrapped up their series against Wenatchee Wednesday night and are off today to travel all the way to Edmonton, Alberta, their longest road trip of the year to play the Edmonton Riverhawks, a new West Coast League team.

The Lefties return to Port Angeles on Tuesday to take on the Bend Elks at 6:35 p.m.
