PORT ANGELES LEFTIES: Lefties’ pitchers struggle in loss to AppleSox

WENATCHEE — The Port Angeles Lefties got off to a good start in their Monday road game against Wenatchee, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Then the AppleSox erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the second and never looked back, going on to win 16-2.

A sextet of Lefties pitchers struggled against Wenatchee, giving up 15 hits, including five extra-base hits, 10 walks and 12 earned runs. Starter Andrew Hauck (Utah Valley) didn’t pitch poorly, giving up one earned run, two hits and a walk in one inning, but he took the loss. The pair of Will Isaly (East Central University) and Megum Fukuda (New Mexico Military Institute) pitched all right, going a combined four innings and allowing three hits, one earned run, two walks and three strikeouts.

The Lefties scored their two runs on a lead-off double by Derek Bogh (Cal State San Bernardino), a walk by BY Choi and then an RBI single by Riley Parker (Cal State, San Bernardino) and a pair of errors by Wenatchee.

Parker finished 2-for-4 with an RBI while Choi had a hit and two walks total. Gabriel DeJesus (Wenatchee Valley College) had a single and Isaiah Munoz (University of Hawaii) belted a double.

The Lefties (3-3, 5-4) played Tuesday after press deadline. They finish their series against Wenatchee on Wednesday night and then take their longest road trip of the year to play a series against the Edmonton Riverhawks, a new team in the West Coast League located in northern Alberta, Canada, beginning Friday.

Sunday’s game in Port Angeles against Kamloops was rained out.
