PORT ANGELES LEFTIES: Lefties’ pitchers solid, but bats silenced in 2-0 loss

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Lefties got fantastic pitching from a trio of pitchers, but their bats continued to struggle in a 2-0 loss to the Edmonton Riverhawks on Tuesday.

The trio of Colby Scheuber (Grays Harbor College), Wes Peninger (Utah Valley State) and Kole Acker (Port Angeles High School and Mount Hood CC) allowed just seven hits, walked none and struck out nine.

Starter Scheuber went seven innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs. He walked none and struck out six. Peninger pitched a perfect eighth inning, allowing no baserunners and striking out two. Acker pitched the ninth, allowing a hit and striking out one.

Scheuber’s one mistake was a two-run home run hit against him by Edmonton’s Kelly Corl in the third inning. Other than that one pitch, he was nearly perfect.

The Lefties could only manage four hits and have only been able to score seven runs in their past five games.

Isiah Walz (Concordia College), Roberto Nunez (Embry-Riddle), Aiden Arriaga (College of the Desert) and Brock Mayer (Chaffey College) all had singles.

The Lefties (4-12 second half, 12-31 overall) played Edmonton (6-10 second half, 13-30 overall) after press deadline Wednesday. They wrap up their series with the Riverhawks at 6:35 Thursday at Civic Field. Those games also can be found on WCL Live.
