PORT ANGELES LEFTIES: Lefties lose a close one at Bellingham in battle for first place

BELLINGHAM — The Port Angeles Lefties got solid pitching from their staff Friday night against Bellingham, but only managed six hits in a tight pitchers’ duel, falling 4-2.

With the win, Bellingham took over first place in the North Division at 6-4 in the second half. Port Angeles is one game back at 5-5.

Four Lefties pitchers allowed nine hits, four walks and three earned runs. Jackson Price (Transfer portal) started, going five innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out five. He walked four and took the hard-luck loss. Ryan Wike (Univ. of Jamestown), Eric Schumann (Embry-Riddle) and Alec Hagopian (Embry-Riddle) pitched the final three innings, allowing four hits and one earned run.

At the plate, Yahir Ramirez (Texas A&M, Corpus Christi) hit a triple and scored a run, while Jeremy Giesegh (Cal State, San Bernardino) hit a double and scored a run. Eric Valdivia (Chaffey College) had a hit and two RBIs and Brett Haggerty (Yakima Valley College) hit a double.

The Lefties play Saturday night at Joe Martin Stadium in Bellingham looking to even the series and possibly get back into a tie for first place in the North. That game is at 6:35 p.m. They finish the three-game series Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. All the games can be viewed on www.wcleague.watch.pixellot.tv.
