PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles full schedule was released this week, adding nine nonleague games to a slate of 54 West Coast League games, with a season running from May 27 to Aug. 14, 2022.
The Lefties will begin with three nonleague games May 27-29 at Civic Field against the Northwest Honkers. The Lefties begin their league schedule from May 31 to June 2, returning to Canada for the first time since 2019 to play their friendly rival Victoria HarbourCats.
Other nonleague games at Civic Field are three-game series against Highline (from Bellevue) on July 5-7 and the Redmond Dudes on July 19-21.
Port Angeles fans will see a few new teams coming to Port Angeles. The first of those will be the Kamloops NorthPaws, who come to Civic Field on June 3-5.
Another new WCL team, the Nanaimo NightOwls, will travel to Port Angeles on June 27-29.
The Lefties’ longest homestands will be from June 14-19 against Bend and Walla Walla and from July 29 to Aug. 4 against Victoria and Edmonton.
The Lefties will have 36 home games at Civic Field and 27 road games. With all the new teams in the WCL, they won’t get a chance to play every team in the league. There are no games against South Division teams Portland Pickles, Ridgefield Raptors and the new Springfield Drifters.
The Lefties’ longest road trip will be June 6-12 against Wenatchee and Edmonton, which is located 870 miles from Port Angeles in northern Alberta. They have another long road trip from June 21-26 against Bellingham and Kamloops, located in central British Columbia.
The Lefties were forced to play in some 115-degree heat last summer in Yakima and Wenatchee during the severe heat wave of June. It appears they will largely avoid the worst of the heat this year with a three-game series at Kelowna on July 26-28 likely handing the Lefties their hottest games of the season. Though Kelowna is in Canada, it can get more than 100 degrees in the central B.C. city. The Lefties avoid traveling to Yakima, Walla Walla and Wenatchee in late summer.
The playoffs will be held from Aug. 9 to Aug. 14.
Owner Matt Acker said recruiting of players for next summer is nearly finished, with several players from the 2021 team likely returning.
