PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Lefties got a fantastic five innings of work from starter Jack O’Brien (Hawaii Pacific), but the floodgates opened for Kelowna in the sixth inning as the Falcons went on to win Friday at Civic Field 7-5.
O’Brien went four scoreless innings and entered the sixth inning up 4-1 having allowed just three hits to that point. But Kelowna broke through for three runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh as the Lefties’ bullpen allowed six hits.
O’Brien finished with five innings of work, five hits, three earned runs, four walks and four strikeouts. Garrett Holpuck (Centralia Community College), who started the seventh inning, took the loss. Brock Mayer (Chaffey College) pitched will in relief, going three innings, allowing three hits, one earned run and one walk. He struck out two.
At the plate, Roberto Nunez (Embry-Riddle) remained hot, going 2-for-3 and upping his batting average to .446, tops in the entire West Coast League. Though he didn’t have an RBIs on Friday, Nunez is also second in the WCL in RBIs with 19.
BY Choi (Dallas Baptist) had a double, a run scored and two walks, while Kamden Koester (Neosho County CC) had a double, a run scored and an RBI. Trent Jackson (Hawaii-Hilo) was 1-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI, a walk and a stolen base.
Port Angeles (7-12) plays Kelowna (10-9) at 6:35 p.m. Saturday night and will host the Falcons against at 1:35 p.m. Sunday.
