PORT ANGELES LEFTIES: Former Seattle Seahawk to play for Lefties

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Lefties plan to announce Tuesday that a former member of the Seattle Seahawks has been signed to play for the team.

Lefties owner Matt Acker confirmed that the former Seahawk had been signed and will be introduced Tuesday and will begin playing for the team immediately in their series against the Bend Elks. He will be identified at that time, but Acker said he is a former Pro Bowler. He also played major college baseball and was drafted by Major League Baseball teams before he began his NFL career.

Acker said it hasn’t been decided how long the former Seahawk will remain with the team. “We’ll see if he’s ready to play and if this level is right for him,” he said. “The hope is he’ll remain for the next series [against the Walla Walla Sweets] and more.”

The Lefties play Bend at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday at Civic Field to begin a three-game series, then follow with another three games at home against Walla Walla.

There have been famous players in the West Coast League such as the Seattle Mariners’ Mitch Haniger and Marco Gonzales, but they usually become well-known nationally after their WCL careers. This is the first time a well-known professional athlete has come to play for the Lefties.
