SEATTLE — Basketball teams from Neah Bay, Clallam Bay and Port Angeles learned Sunday who and where they will be playing in the state regional playoffs.
Games will be played on Saturday.
The Port Angeles basketball girls will be traveling to University High in Spokane for their regionals game at 4 p.m. Saturday against East Valley (Spokane). Port Angeles, 13-10, qualified for regional by winning its first two games at district. The Roughriders are a No. 15 seed and will be playing a No. 10 seed. East Valley is 14-6.
The Neah Bay boys (18-3), a No. 1 seed, will host a very familiar foe — No. 8 seed Almira/Coulee-Hartline (18-2) at Mount Tehoma High School in Tacoma. This game will be played at 10 a.m. Saturday. Neah Bay beat Almira/Coulee-Hartline last year in the 1B state championship game so they get a playoff rematch right off the bat.
Neah Bay will move on to state regardless of the outcome but will have a better seed if the boys win, so it’s entirely possible Neah Bay could play Almira/Coulee-Hartline twice in the regional and state postseason.
The Neah Bay girls (18-3), seeded at No. 10, will host No. 15 seed Naselle (15-5), which despite its record is ranked No. 24 in the RPI. Unlike the Neah Bay boys, this is a loser-out game, so the Red Devils must win. This game will also be played at Mount Tahoma High at noon Saturday immediately following the boys game.
Clallam Bay, which had to win two games at the 1B Tri-District tournament to stay alive in the postseason, gets a fairly easy road trip to Marysville. The Bruins (12-5) ranked No. 16 in the RPI, will travel to Jackson High School in Mill Creek to play 13th-ranked Tulalip Heritage. The Neah Bay girls narrowly beat Tulalip Heritage (13-3) at Tri-Districts. This game will be played at noon Saturday.
