CHENEY — Crescent’s Ruth Wilhelm and Forks’ McKinnon Hanson broke state Class 2A and B meet records on their way to winning titles in the discus and high jump, respectively, in the state championship track and field tournaments Friday and Saturday.
Both the 2A and B meets were held at the Eastern Washington University campus.
Wilhelm’s throw of 141 feet, 3 inches came on her final attempt and edged Annie Hess of Bickleton, who threw 137-11.
“To throw 141 was pretty cool and to have it be on my last throw was great,” Wilhelm said after the meet.
Hanson’s leap of 5 feet, 7 inches put her atop the 2A field.
For Sequim, James Brabant took third in the Class 3A boys 300-meter hurdles, setting a new school record for the Wolves with a time of 38.39 seconds.
“James set a personal and school record by doing the best he could do,” Sequim head coach Brad Moore said.
The 3A and 4A meets were held in Pasco at Edgar Brown Stadium.
