PORT ANGELES — It was a 10-0 day for Peninsula College soccer.
The No. 1-ranked Peninsula College women’s soccer team remained unbeaten on the season with a 4-0 win at Wally Sigmar Field.
Meanwhile, the men beat the Dolphins 6-0.
The women got two more goals from Port Angeles’ Millie Long. It was Long’s fifth multi-goal game of the young season. She now has 11 goals, which is tied for tops in the Northwest Athletic Conference with Kya Scott of Tacoma Community College.
The women peppered the Dolphins with 35 shots, including 21 in the first half and 16 on goal.
Long scored both of her goals unassisted in the 25th and 75th minutes. Briana-Jean Tanaka, coming off a hat trick last week against Whatcom, scored a goal in the 42nd minute with an assist to Taya Bohenko. Kira Meechudhone scored an unassisted goal in the 70th minute.
Keeper Frida Markstrom faced five shots and made three saves to earn the shutout for the Pirates. It was the fourth shutout of the year for the Pirates out of six games.
Shoreline came into the match as one of the stronger-looking teams in the North Region with a 3-1-1 record.
Men’s game
The men, who are in an exceptionally tough North Region this year, vaulted themselves into a tie for second place in the North with their victory.
The men have scored 11 goals in their past two matches.
The Pirates got goals from six different players and nine players contributed points. Pau Vivas Ayala, Brian Gusman, Inchun Hun, Jem Njda, Matthew Enriquez and Hadrien Pena all scored.
Fernando Tavares and Don Vaios Dovas each had two assists, while Tsubasa Abe and Pena both had assists.
Much like the women’s game, the men peppered the goal with shots, getting off 31, including 22 in the first half. Twelve of those were on goal.
Keeper Taiki Setoguchi faced five shots and made two saves to earn the shutout, his fourth of the year.
It was the sixth shutout of the year out of 10 matches for the men.
With his goal, Vivas Ayala is second in the NWAC in goals with nine. He had a four-goal game early this season. Vaios is leading the NWAC in assists with seven, while Tavares is second with six and Guzman is tied for third with five.
The Pirates are in a heck of a dogfight in the region as the North teams have tended to dominate the West teams in the crossover games.
First-place Everett got beaten this weekend by Bellevue, a fifth-place team. Everett is 6-1-0 (18 points), Peninsula is second at 5-1-1 (16 points), tied with Skagit (5-1-1, 16 points). Whatcom is fourth at 4-1-2 (14 points) and Bellevue is fifth at 4-2-1 (13 points). The Pirates are 8-1-1 overall.
Peninsula hosts Edmonds (2-4-1) at Wally Sigmar Field at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Edmonds is not fielding a women’s team this year, so the women have a bye. They next play at Bellevue on Saturday.
