RENTON — The Port Angeles girls basketball team squeezed past Renton 44-42 with a dramatic series of plays in the closing moments of Wednesday night’s nonleague game.

Shayla Northern tied the game with a 3-pointer with six seconds to go, then Madison Hinrichs stole the ensuing inbound pass and fed the ball to Paxton Rodocker, who was fouled.

Rodocker knocked down both free throws to seal the win and give the Riders some serious momentum going into Friday’s home showdown with Kingston (6-1 in league).

SEQUIM — The Wolves couldn’t quite top the 11th-ranked Buccaneers in Wednesday night’s Olympic League dual.

Two forfeits and one disqualification helped keep Sequim (0-2 in league) from the upset, despite the Wolves coming up with three pins on the night.

Port Townsend 29

BREMERTON — The Redskins came within a hair of topping a depleted Klahowya team Wednesday night in Olympic League action.

Going up against an Eagles squad missing several of its top wrestlers, Port Townsend was able to come up with five pins and six wins overall.

Still, that wasn’t quite enough to give the Redskins (0-2 in league) their first league dual victory of the season.
