BLYN — The fifth and final race in the Run the Peninsula Series will take place on the Olympic Discovery Trail between Blyn and Sequim Saturday evening for the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe 5K/10K.
There will be a 5K and a 10K race. Motorists are advised that there will be traffic control at several intersections of the Olympic Discovery Trail and county roads.
The race begins at 4:30 p.m. in Blyn and approximately 450 participants are expected. Competitors will run or walks west along the Olympic Discovery Trail, then turn around and head back at 5K and 10K turnarounds to the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe bus stop in Blyn.
This event is put on by the Port Angeles Marathon Association, which also manages the North Olympic Discovery Marathon in June from Blyn to Port Angeles. The event is made possible by title sponsors Peninsula Daily News and the Sequim Gazette and presenting sponsors Jamestown Family Healthcare and Olympic Medical Center. Proceeds from the event go toward several local organizations, including the Peninsula Trails Coalition, which builds and maintains the Olympic Discovery Trail.
The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe 5K/10K has been permitted by Clallam County to control traffic at trail intersections with county roads, effectively giving pedestrians right-of-way for the race. The race takes place after dusk and there could be snow flurries Saturday night, so motorists driving through the area are asked to remain aware of runners. Motorists should be prepared to stop at the following intersections from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.:
• Old Blyn Highway and Olympic Discovery Trail.
• Dawley Road (ODT Shares this road).
• Schoolhouse Point Lane and Olympic Discovery Trail.
• Schindler Road and Olympic Discovery Trail.
• Barker Road and Olympic Discovery Trail.
Participants are required to wear a headlamp or some other type of lighting device.·
