PORT TOWNSEND — Registration is open for the Jefferson Healthcare Rhody Run Redux that is set for May 22.
This year’s race starts and finishes at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds and will feature 5K and 10K race options for runners and walkers. Registration is $45 for people ages 19 to 64, $40 for 65 and older, $15 for 18 and under and free for 5 and younger.
Registration includes a long-sleeved shirt for each participant. Proceeds from the Jefferson Healthcare Rhody Run Reduxevent are returned to the community in the form of funding support for school sports programs and youth-oriented nonprofit organizations. Donations can be made on the race registration page at www.RhodyRun.com and clicking on “donate” at the bottom of the page.
Race proceeds for the past twenty years have been donated to support youth nonprofits and school athletics. Taking into consideration the recent pandemic and social strain on our young community members, proceeds from this year’s event will support youth mental health organizations, Jumping Mouse Children’s Center, The Benji Project, Quilcene/Brinnon Dollars for Scholars and East Jefferson Rivals Athletics.
“Physical exercise is an excellent way to support mental well-being,” said Jen Little, race organizer. “We couldn’t think of a better way to help the kids in our community than to support the organizations that work for them. The return of the Rhody Run not only celebrates our community but emphasizes some normalcy we see returning to our lives.”
Organizers and local businesses are excited for this community tradition to start again after a two-year hiatus from the pandemic. Special thanks to Thunderbull and the Production Alliance for their assistance with the course setup, Quilcene Oyster Run organizers helping as course marshals, and the Kiwanis Club for sponsoring the mile 4 water/aid station.
Local businesses will offer an “After Celebration” discount to runners when they present their race bib to The Anchor, The Pourhouse, FinnRiver Cidery, Port Townsend Food Co-op, Elevated Ice Cream and Fairwinds Winery.
