PORT ANGELES — Seniors Wyatt Dunning and John Vaara of the Port Angeles Roughriders have been named to the first team of the all-Olympic League basketball team.
Dunning, the team’s leading scorer and Vaara, the team’s leading rebounder, shot blocker and post presence, helped lead the Riders to an Olympic 2A League co-championship and a sixth-place trophy at the state 2A basketball tournament. It was the Riders’ first state trophy since 1996-97.
Port Angeles coach Kasey Ulin was also named coach of the year for the league.
North Kitsap, the other Olympic 2A League co-champion, got three players on the first team. Jonas La Tour, who has signed to play at Pacific Northwest, got the most votes for league MVP, with Dunning coming in second. Joining La Tour on the first team is North Kitsap’s Johny Olmstead and Cade Orness.
Making the second team was guard and defensive star Xander Maestas of the Roughriders. Joining Maestas on the second team is Aiden Olmstead of North Kitsap, Zach Mead of Kingston, D’Angelo Moore of Bremerton and Cliff Hennessey of Bainbridge.
Making the honorable mention team are Quanah Wheeler of Port Angeles and Isaiah Moore of Sequim. Joining them on the team are Ruppe Wilson, Bremerton; Aiden Olmstead, North Kitsap; Harris Davies, North Kitsap; Colton Bower, North Kitsap, Dakota Standley, Kingston; Ashton Trottman, Olympic; and James Carey, Bainbridge.
Named to the all-league sportsmanship team were Damon Gunderson of Port Angeles and Moore of Sequim. Joining them on the sportsmanship team are Wilson, Bremerton; Gray Hager, North Kitsap; Connor McColm, North Mason; Tristian Bluitt, Olympic; Joseph Patricio, Kingston.
