OLYMPIC ALL-LEAGUE BASKETBALL: Port Angeles’ Nickerson, Shamp make first team

Sequim’s Green, Port Angeles’ Albaugh make second team

BAINBRIDGE — Port Angeles’ Parker Nickerson and Isaiah Shamp both made the Olympic League first team while Sequim and Port Angeles added another three players onto the league’s second and honorable mention teams.

Nickerson and Shamp helped lead the Roughriders to an 11-3 record and second-place finish in the Olympic League (17-8 overall). Nickerson largely played wing with a deadly 3-point shot while Shamp was a strong post presence for the Riders. Both players also specialized in creating steals while on defense.

Making the second team was Sequim outside sharpshooter Keenan Green, who helped lead the Wolves to a postseason berth. Also making the second team was Port Angeles guard Kason Albaugh, who became a big 3-point shooter for the Riders, especially during the second half of the season.

Named to the honorable mention team was Sequim’s Solomon Sheppard, who had several big games for the Wolves.

Named the Olympic League MVP and defensive player of the year was Cade Orness of league-champion North Kitsap, which is playing in the state 2A tournament this week.

Given sportsmanship awards were Port Angeles’ Ezra Townsend and Sequim’s Charlie Grider.

In Thursday’s sports section will be the Olympic League girls basketball all-league members.
