Neah Bay gets past Lummi, moves on to Class 1B semifinals

BELLINGHAM — The Neah Bay football team shed one heck of a monkey off its back Friday night.

The Red Devils finally took care of their old tormentors in their Class 1B state quarterfinal, knocking off the top-ranked Lummi Blackhawks 58-40 with a dramatic fourth-quarter rally at Civic Field in Bellingham.

The win puts Neah Bay in the 1B semifinals at the Tacoma Dome for the third year in a row.

It also gives the team a measure of revenge, as it was the defending 1B champion Blackhawks who had eliminated Neah Bay from the state semifinals each of the past two seasons.
