MOUNTAIN BIKING: NW CUP — Port Angeles riders place at Whitefish

WHITEFISH, Mont. — Port Angeles’ Matt Mangano finished second at the latest Northwest Cup downhill mountain bike races held in Whitefish, Mont., pikcing up his seventh placement of the season.

Mangano has dominated in the men’s 15-18 Cat 2 division all summer. He has picked up three first-place finishes, three seconds and a third.

Mangano finished second at Whitefish with a time of 3 minutes, 5.40 seconds, less than two seconds off the top time.

Other Port Angeles riders who placed include

Ron Riggs, men’s Cat 3 40+, third, 3:25.97.

Shannon Mangano, men’s Cat 3 40+, fourth, 3:38.75.

Bryan Campbell, men’s Cat 2 30-39, sixth; 3:23.33.

Talon Northern, men’s Cat 2 15-18, sixth, 3:12.62.

Ezra Northern, men’s Cat 1 0-18, eighth, 4:09.35.

Oscar Ruiz, boy’s Cat 2 0-14, 16th, 3:36.67

Titus Ruis, boy’s Cat 3 11-14, 23rd, 4:25.89.

The Northwest Cup season ends with round 8 on Sept. 7-9 at Steven’s Pass. The circuit includes races all over the Pacific Northwest, including two races earlier this summer at Dry Hill in Port Angeles.
