PORT ANGELES HIGH School’s DECA business and marketing club will host its first four-person team DECA Scramble fundraiser at Sequim’s SkyRidge Golf Course on Saturday, Dec. 19.
DECA gives students hands-on-experience in the fields of marketing, business and entrepreneurship, and provides conferences and competitions for students to grow into future business leaders.
Way back when, I was a member of Port Townsend High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club, a group providing educational experience of a very similar nature to that of DECA.
I have fond memories of trips to regional and state conferences, and I encourage the local golfing contingent to support this worthy cause.
Proceeds from the tournament will go towards travel and competition expenses for Port Angeles DECA students.
The tournament will begin with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start, and costs $45 per person.
Fees include 18 holes of golf, range balls, prizes and a potluck lunch put together by Port Angeles High School DECA members.
Participants can purchase mulligans or even bid for a Roughrider golf team member to help out your team.
Carts are an extra $12.

Pre-Christmas tourney
SkyRidge will host a full day of golf with its 27-hole Pre-Christmas Tournament on Saturday.
The two-person team event is set for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, barring any frost delay.
Every nine holes the format will change with the first nine best-ball, second nine an aggregate and last nine a scramble.
The tournament costs $80 per team for all 27 holes, lunch, range balls and competition money.
Only 28 two-person teams can play, so sign up with the course at 360-683-3673.
PT open house
Port Townsend Golf Club will host an open house from 4-7 p.m. on Friday.
The event will feature special deals on merchandise, and with Christmas just around the corner, shoppers could find some perfect stocking stuffers for the golf nut in your family.
Appetizers and plenty of “holiday cheer” also will be on hand.
The next morning, the course will host its annual Toys for Tots Christmas Scramble with proceeds going to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.
The tournament begins with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.
Kiwanis Coat Drive
Port Townsend members also will hold their 24th annual Kiwanis Coat Drive during the Toys for Tots Scramble.
The club has a long-standing tradition of putting up Christmas stockings in the clubhouse.
Members add donations that go to a needy local family for the holidays.
Whatever funds are left over or donated at the scramble have been used to purchase winter coats.
Port Townsend will accept donations of new coats or cash during the tournament to help fund the coat drive.
Christmas Blues
Port Townsend also will host a Christmas Blue Scramble with a four-person blind draw format on Saturday, Dec. 26.
The event has a 10 a.m. shotgun start.

Hat for weekly pass
Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA) members can take advantage of a holiday deal for the 110th U.S. Amateur at Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place Aug. 23-29, 2010.
From now until Dec. 31, the first 500 members can purchase a weekly pass for $55 for the tournament and receive a limited edition PNGA member cap.
The pass is good for all seven days of the tournament plus two practice days, a championship program and parking.
Maybe I’ll run into some North Olympic Peninsula golfers at the tournament as I plan to attend at least one day of the event.
It will be an excellent chance to see the future stars of the PGA Tour.
