A ROUND OF polite golf hand clapping is in store as Port Ludlow Resort was recently named the Best Golf Resort in the entire state by Official Best Of, a group that uses researchers and input from the traveling public and travel experts to arrive at its results.
The Official Best of Washington television program will be airing on King-5 at noon on Saturday, Sept. 10 and in October on the Discovery Channel.
Ludlow demo today
Port Ludlow Golf Club is hosting representatives from Ping and Cobra today from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
It’s the last demo day scheduled for this summer at the course.
Labor Day special
In support of Patriot Golf Day, Port Ludlow Golf Club will extend a special rate of $49 with cart from Friday through Monday for anyone who mentions Patriot Golf Day and donates at least $1 to the Folds of Honor Foundation.
Folds of Honor Foundation provides scholarships to the family members of U.S. service members disabled or killed while serving our country.
Sorry, my mistake
Making mistakes is never fun and I did a solid botch job with last week’s opening topic.
I had written that SunLand Golf & Country Club’s participation in the Folds of Honor Foundation’s Patriot Golf Day during Labor Day weekend was open to the public.
Turns out, it’s a membership-only promotion.
To readers and to SunLand: I’m sorry for the confusion.
Mariners Golf Night
SunLand pro Tyler Sweet worked with the Seattle Mariners to incorporate the Folds of Honor Foundation into the Mariners’ Golf Night on Friday, Sept. 16 against the Texas Rangers.
A $5 donation from every ticket purchased at www.mariners.com/golf will go to the Folds of Honor.
Golf fans will receive a Mariners golf towel and a ticket to a late-summer night at Safeco Field.
Port Townsend events
The Port Townsend Golf Club Men’s Club will host a breakfast and competition event for $20 plus greens fees on Sunday.
Players will get a chance at a breakfast buffet, a two-person blind-draw scramble, skins and a deuce pot.
Breakfast starts at 7:30 a.m. and the tourney tees off from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
In future weeks, the course will host the two-person best ball Port Townsend Elks Lodge Fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 10.
The Port Townsend Rotary’s Driving in the Dark tournament is also in the works at Port Townsend.

SkyRidge happenings
SkyRidge Golf Course in Sequim will hold a three-person scramble tournament on Saturday, Sept. 17.
Tee-time is 9 a.m. for the tourney, which is $30 per player ($90 per team).
A honey pot will be up for grabs for an extra $20 a player.
Three drives from each player must be used during the round.
Lunch will follow play and there will be two drawings for a Las Vegas vacation.
Jefferson Amateur
T.J. Durner claimed the inaugural 36-hole Jefferson County Amateur held recently at Discovery Bay Golf Club of Port Townsend.
Durner fired a 165 total.
Bob Hicks and Brian Peterson tied for low-net honors with a 145.
Discovery Bay is also offering its “Two for One Tuesday” specials until further notice.
Two greens fees for the price of one on Tuesdays — a great deal especially while we have this sunny late-summer weather.
Odds and ends
Have you heard the one about the Bethany College men’s golf team?
Team members at the small Lutheran college in Kansas decided to pose for a picture in the nude, with strategically placed golf equipment hiding any naughty bits.
Not the smartest decision, fellas!
According to the Wichita Eagle, “Athletic director and golf coach Jon Daniels suspended the team for three tournaments — two that would have occurred on the same day — because of the picture.
“Team captain Jack Hiscock told KAKE News that the team would appeal the suspension to school president.”
The team members were successful in their appeal and will miss just one tournament.
