IT’S LATE IN the game but golfers can still support a good cause by registering to play in the 21st annual Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula Golf Tournament.
The four-person shotgun scramble will tee off at Sequim’s SunLand Golf & Country Club at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

I worked at the Sequim unit in the summer after my freshman year of college and know first-hand what a large population the Sequim and Port Angeles clubs serve.
Peninsula Cup slated
The fourth annual Peninsula Cup will be held Saturday morning at Peninsula Golf Club in Port Angeles.
Twelve-person teams representing golf clubs from around the North Olympic Peninsula will compete for the Cup and any and all bragging rights that come with victory.
Peninsula Golf Club won the Cup at Port Ludlow Golf Club last year and will look to become the first repeat champion.
Spectators can attend to root their teams to victory.
This year’s tourney will honor my predecessor, former PDN golf columnist Billy Sallee, who passed earlier this year.
Sound Community Bank, 7 Cedars Resort and Casino and Les Schwab Tires are sponsoring the event.
Port Ludlow events
Nike Golf staffers will visit Port Ludlow Golf Club from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.
Next Friday, May 25, the Callaway Golf Tour Fit Van will roll across the Hood Canal Bridge to Port Ludlow on its lone visit to the North Olympic Peninsula this year.
The Tour Fit Van has the ability to fit golfers using Callaway’s TrackMan technology, and then build the clubs on site for customers.
Players can be fitted and walk away that same day like a tour pro with a new set of golf clubs.
You’ll get the properly fitted head model and shaft with the right lie angle(s) for your game.
Take advantage, this is one of just three visits the Tour Fit Van will make in the entire state this year.
Golfers who attend either the Nike Day or the Callaway Day and mention the Peninsula Daily News will receive a two-rounds-for-the-price-of-one golf coupon for Port Ludlow.
Anybody who makes a purchase of $200 or more will receive a free round of golf.
If you go Callaway, you’ll get a perfectly fitted set of clubs, a free round and mention the PDN and you get two more rounds for the price of one.

Port Ludlow will also host an ESPN Challenge event Saturday, June 2.
The tourney has a 10 a.m. shotgun start.

Swindler returns
Discovery Bay Golf Club recently announced the return of Dan Swindler to its staff.
Some of you may have known Swindler during his time working at Discovery Bay when he gave lessons on a contracted basis.
He also had a stint on the maintenance crew before he moved south to pursue his career.
Swindler brings his years of experience as an assistant golf pro at Orchards Hills Golf Course, Gig Harbor Golf & Country Club and The Cedars at Salmon Creek.
He competed on the Port Townsend High School golf team and was an assistant for a Redskins team I played on, golf coach Gabriel Tonan’s first team in 2000.
Before he left the area he worked at Port Townsend Golf Club, Port Ludlow and Discovery Bay.
He is married to Kassandra and they have a daughter, Grayce, and son, Tyler.

Discovery Bay deals
Discovery Bay has a two-for-one Tuesday deal where two golfers can pay one greens fee all day Tuesdays or two players can have the run of the place all day with a cart for $60.

A little birdie told me
Besides new carts, I’ve heard that Discovery Bay also has a new batch of range balls being readied for use in practice play.
Port Townsend busy
The summer-long Men’s Club Match Play Championship will begin at Port Townsend Golf Club on Saturday.
Cost is $30 with reduced greens fees for non-members.
The double-elimination event provides a good way to enjoy a different spin on a round of golf during the summer months.
Rhody Open slated
The annual Jim Caldwell Memorial Rhody Open comprises two events, and will be held Saturday and Sunday.
Players can play both days or just pick whichever is more appealing.
An individual gross and net competition with closest to the pin and long putt prizes will be held Saturday.
Play tees off at 8 a.m. and is $35 per player with $10 greens fees for nonmembers.
Sunday’s event is a two-person best-ball competition with closest to the pin and longest putt prizes.
The tournament starts at 9 a.m. and is $30 per player with $10 greens fees for nonmembers.
Proceeds benefit the Rhododendron Festival.

SkyRidge events
SkyRidge Golf Course in Sequim will host the ESPN/Callaway Golf Challenge on Sunday, June 3.
The event will have divisions for 54 and younger and 55 and older golfers.
It’s a two-person better ball event and cost is $45, which includes play and lunch.
Carts are $15 per seat.
One gross and one net team will advance to the ESPN Regional competition at Washington National Golf Club in Auburn, the home of the University of Washington golf team.
Ninth anniversary set
Golfers can join SkyRidge in celebrating its ninth anniversary with the SkyRidge Chapman Tournament on Saturday, June 16.
The Two-Person Modified Chapman tourney will have a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
Cost is $60 per team and will include 18 holes of golf, range balls, lunch after play, KPs and long putt
An optional honey pot is $20 per team.
In this format, each player hits a tee shot, and then hit each other’s ball for the second shot.
From there it becomes alternate shot, using the better of the two second shots.
The player whose second shot was not used would hit the third shot.
Players continue alternating until the ball is holed.
