PROFESSIONAL GOLFERS ASSOCIATION (PGA) pros converge on Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course in Sequim next Wednesday through Nov. 1 for a pair of two-day golf tournaments, the Olympic Pro-Pro and the Olympic Pro-Amateur.
Cedars currently has 26 PGA pros set to play together in pairs starting at 9 a.m. next Wednesday and Thursday in the Olympic Pro-Pro.
A Senior Pro-Pro for those over the age of 50 will run concurrently.
Halloween brings the Olympic Pro-Amateur, a five-man team event (one pro and four amateurs), open to those with an established GHIN handicap.
The Pro-Am is $250 per person for the amateurs and $200 for the pros, and the tournament begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on both Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
Halloween Scramble
Port Townsend Golf Club hosts its 12th annual Halloween Scramble this Saturday.
The Halloween Scramble is $30 for club members and $40 for the public.
There will be lunch, and KP’s and longest putt prizes by division.
The format of the scramble is to-be-determined and is based on the amount of players expressing interest for particular formats.
Port Townsend Golf Club will also host The Hilltop Open, sponsored by Hilltop Tavern owners Pat and Judy Lundgren, on Nov. 7.

Local results Dungeness news
Recently, 11 members of the Cedars at Dungeness Lady Niners trekked down to Lake Cushman Golf Course for an exchange with the Lake Cushman women.
The two groups are no strangers to one another as the Cushman ladies have played in invitational tournaments in Sequim in the past few years.
But this was the first chance many of the Dungeness women had to play the nine-hole Lake Cushman layout.
I played the course once in high school and I remember it having tight, fir-tree lined fairways, tricky elevated greens and water becoming a factor in the form of a creek and a pond in the last three holes.
It’s a nice test of your game if you are ever down south in the Hoodsport area.
The Dungeness ladies enjoyed their round and a nice glass of wine. They then dined at a local restaurant before heading back home.
Last week the ladies played Field Day, which is scored by scratching putts from the total score and subtracting half the handicap.
Jo Hendrickson edged out Andie Grams 23.5 to 24 for first division honors, and Lindsay Busch and Terri Green deadlocked in the second division with a 24.
Barb Bullock (15) and Donna Teel (17) were low-putt leaders for each division, respectively.
Peninsula wins TOP
Triumphant news this week from Peninsula Golf Club in Port Angeles.
The Peninsula Lady Golfers team claimed the 2009 Teams of the Peninsula (TOP) competition.
The win is the third in the annual summer competition between Peninsula, Cedars at Dungeness, Sequim’s SunLand Golf & Country Club and Port Ludlow Golf Course from the North Olympic Peninsula, Wing Point and Meadowmeer Golf & Country Club on Bainbridge Island and Madrona Links Golf Course in Gig Harbor.
The Peninsula Lady Golfers 18-hole group played a game of Blind Partners last Wednesday.
Doris Sparks and Chris Anderson finished on top with a combined total of 145.
Winter golf has started at Peninsula with the ladies teeing off on Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m.
Ludlow women
Port Ludlow Golf Course’s 18-hole women’s group played Pick a Partner last Tuesday.
Gale Byington and Sally Grything tied with Linda Aho and Diana Smeland with a 71 in the first flight, and Burleigh Smith and Carol Oros (70) were four shots better than Sally Lynum-Lee and Beth Weaver (74) in the second flight.
The last Port Ludlow Nine Hole Couples Tournament of the year took place last Thursday.
Tom and Judy Smith and Bill and Anne Weigel were tournament chairs for the past year.
Linda and Dave Aho and Mike and Mea Graham were tops in the first flight and Darrell and Evelyn Fett and George and Joanne Harrington notched a win in the second flight.
During the round Linda Aho carded a hole-in-one on the third hole on the Tide Course.
Aho used her 3-wood and a Lady Noodle ball on the 155-yard par-3.
No word, however, if Aho chose to purchase the typical post-ace beverage for the other 59 players in the tournament or just for her playing partners.
That type of shot-making could get expensive rather quickly if everyone is invited to share in the fun.
The couples then decamped to the Bay Club for a catered dinner by the Belmont, and more accolades for Aho. She tied with Weigel for the Captains Cup Award for the 9-Holers, while Kathy Snider was selected as Most Improved and Janice Downs for her play in Eclectic Tournaments.
SunLand ladies
The SunLand ladies played a round using the Stableford Scoring System last week.
Judy Nordyke finished with the most points in Flight One with 38, Willadee Tallman was first in Flight Two with 37 and Janet Littlefield totaled 40 points in Flight Three.
Some good news from SunLand as well this week. SunLand general manager Tyler Sweet reports that Mike Novotny, a 78-year-old club member, shot well under his age with a 1-under par 71 on Oct.18.
