MEN’S BASKETBALL: Peninsula College adds height to frontline

PORT ANGELES — The 2014-15 Peninsula College men’s basketball team got bigger recently.

Head coach Mitch Freeman has signed two players with size in Jonah Cook and Dimitri Amos.

Cook, a 6-foot-9 post from Anacortes, played for La Conner High School where he averaged just under 10 points per game.

He graduated in 2012 and attended Skagit Valley College last year, but did not play basketball.

“Jonah gives us immediate size and strength inside,” Freeman said.

“He has a great touch with range to the 3-point line.”

Also signing was Amos, a 6-6 wing from Agassi Prep High School in North Las Vegas. Amos graduated in 2011 and attended Mayville State University his freshman year.

“Dimitri is a versatile inside-outside player who will be tough for the opposing team to guard,” Freeman said.

“He is an exceptional rebounder and can score in multiple ways around the basket.”

The Pirates have added three players 6-7 or taller after only having one such player in 2013-14.

Along with Amos and Cook, Peninsula signed 6-7 forward Malik Mayeux from Tacoma earlier this summer.

Those three join a recruiting class that includes Deonte Dixon, a 6-2 guard from Bremerton; Jeremiah Hobbs, a 6-5 forward from Seattle Academy; Ryley Callaghan, a 6-1 point guard from Port Orchard; and Kareem Babbs, a 6-3 guard/forward from Tacoma.
