PORT ANGELES — Early rising spectators will have better spots to watch marathon athletes compete along the 26.2-mile North Olympic Discovery Marathon course this morning.
With the course stretching along the Olympic Discovery Trail for the vast majority of the distance, viewers will have ample opportunities to root for runners.
The full marathon begins at the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Center campus in Blyn at
7:30 a.m.
The course follows the trail along Sequim Bay before journeying through Washington Street in downtown Sequim and wrapping up at Port Angeles City Pier.
Organizers expect the first full-marathon competitors to complete the run around 10:15 a.m.
Half-marathoners will start at 8:30 a.m. at the Agnew Soccer Fields in Sequim.
The first wave of half-marathon runners should finish about 70 minutes later, also at City Pier.
Both the 5K and the 10K will begin at 9 a.m. — the 5K at City Pier and the 10K at the Deer Park overlook/Buchanan Road near Port Angeles.
Locations to watch the marathon, half-marathon and 10-kilometer and 5-kilometer races are:
■ Downtown Sequim at marathon miles 7 and 8 — Runners will move through on Washington Street.
■ Railroad Bridge Park at marathon mile 10 — To get there, take Carlsborg Road to East Runnion Road to park at the west entrance to the park.
■ Siebert Creek at marathon mile 17 and half-marathon mile 3 — Drive on Old Olympic Highway to Wild Currant Way, follow the road to the parking circle and wait at the bridge.
■ Buchanan Road at marathon mile 21 and half-marathon mile 7 — No parking is allowed in this congested area where major construction is taking place.
■ Francis Street Park — This is less than 1 mile before the finish line.
■ City Pier — Finish line in Port Angeles.
