LINCOLN PARK BMX: A total of 876 riders compete in weekend of qualifiers

PORT ANGELES — State and Gold Cup qualifying races this weekend at the Lincoln Park BMX track attracted a whopping 876 riders Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Friday’s double-point races had 202 riders in 46 motos, while Saturday’s state qualifier had 347 riders and 75 motos. Sunday’s Gold Cup qualifier had 327 riders and 71 motos.

The state BMX championship is in Spokane on Sept. 19 and the regional Gold Cup Northwest championship is in Richland on Sept. 24.

The races attracted riders from all over the Puget Sound. Several riders came from the Spokane area, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and various communities in Oregon.

Local winners in Sunday’s Gold Cup races include Piper Williams of Port Angeles, who took first in the 15-16 girls cruiser moto.

Taylor Coleman of Port Angeles took first in the 17-20 women’s cruiser moto. Shellie Belbin of Port Angeles won the 46-50 women’s cruiser race while Brian Belbin of Port Angeles won the boys’ 14 cruiser moto.

In the 7 novice moto, Kameron Langdon of Port Angeles took first; Max McMurray of Sequim took first in the 8 novice and Olive Rossi of Sequim won the 9 novice race.

Sam Brown of Port Angeles won the 9 intermediate moto and Chase Schweitzer of Port Hadlock won the 17-20 intermediate race.

In the expert races, Bradan Gray of Port Angeles took first in the 8 expert moto.

In Saturday’s state championship qualifier, Brian Belbin won the 14 cruiser and Kameron Landgon won the 7 novice. Max McMurray won the 8 novice and Kaston Beckett of Port Angeles took first in the 9 novice moto.

Sean Lyman of Port Angeles took first in the 14 novice while Mason Wilcox-Olton of Port Angeles won the 6 intermediate. Ganny Goettling of Sequim won the 7 intermediate, while Lukas Teague of Port Angeles took first in the 13 intermediate.

Chase Schweitzer took first in the 17-20 intermediate and Bradan Gray took first in the 8 expert and Brian Belbin won the 14 expert.
