PORT ANGELES — Wilder Junior’s seventh-inning comeback ran out of steam when the potential tying run was thrown at trying to steal third base in a 6-5 loss to NW Sting AAA as part of an American Legion baseball doubleheader at Volunteer Field on Thursday.
It was part of a tough day for Wilder as the Junior squad also fell 5-1 to the Sting in the first game.
Trailing 6-2 entering their last at-bats, Wilder loaded the bases when Lincoln Bear was hit by a pitch and Trae Hanan and Hunter Stratford each drew walks.
Rylan Dunn’s sacrifice fly to right field was enough to advance all runners and Bear crossed the plate for a 6-3 margin.
Rylan Proiette’s RBI groundout cut the Sting lead to 6-4. Braedyn Boulden drew another walk and Hunter Stratford hustled home on a wild pitch for a 6-5 score.
Owen Leitz then stepped up with a two-out single, sending pinch runner Logan Doyle to second base.
Doyle’s attempt to nab third however, was foiled with a quick play from the Sting catcher to third base.
Bear had two hits, including an RBI double and Carston Seibel also went 2-for-4 to pace the Junior batting attack.
Dunn went 4.1 innings on the mound, allowing five runs, three earned on four hits and six walks with seven strikeouts.
Seibel was tagged with the loss after allowing an unearned run in the seventh. Seibel went 2.2 innings and gave up three hits and a walk with a pair of strikeouts.
In the opener, Wilder Junior was limited to four hits in a 5-1 loss.
Three of the hits came in the second inning when Bryce DeLeon singled, Stratford notched a base hit and stole second base, eventually advancing to third on an error.
Clayton Abrams drove in Stratford with his own RBI single, but that was all the offense Wilder could muster.
Boulden went five innings on the mound, allowing four runs on six hits and four walks with four strikeouts. Seibel tossed two innings in relief, allowing an earned run on two hits and a walk, with one strikeout.
Wilder Junior is back at it today in a noon and 2:30 p.m. doubleheader with Blaine’s Pipeline Pirates at Volunteer Field.

BELLEVUE — Sequim teammates Ethan Staples and Braydan White combined on a four-hit shutout as Wilder Senior opened the 2024 Brandy Pugh Memorial Tournament with a 4-0 win over Narrows 18U Premier
Staples scattered four hits and five walks across six innings, with six strikeouts at Bannerwood Park.
White came on in relief after Staples tired and allowed a double and a single to begin the bottom of the seventh and walked one batter in his lone inning on the hill before retiring the side.
Leadoff hitter Alex Angevine opened the game with a walk, stole second and moved to third on a fielder’s choice. Angevine then scored on Jordan Shumway’s sacrifice bunt for an early 1-0 lead.
White also displayed a big bat earlier in the contest, tripling on a fly ball to center field to drive in Nathan Basden to put Wilder up 2-0 midway through the first inning.
Colton Romero added an RBI triple to center to score Josiah Gooding in the fourth and Romero scored on a Luke Flodstrom single to center for a 4-0 lead.
Wilder Senior played two contests late Friday and will face Michael’s Toyota [Centralia] at 2 p.m. today in Green Division play.
