Port Angeles Lefties
VICTORIA — The HarborCats put on a show Thursday night in Victoria, beating the Lefties on all fronts. The home side showed resilience, going behind against Port Angeles, but completing the comeback to take the game 8-4.
After looking at their batting stats it is easy to see why. The HarborCats have five batters hitting over .300 and one hitting almost .500 compared to one for the Lefties in Jeremy Giesegh (Cal State San Bernardino), who’s hitting close to .400 after another multi-hit night.
Giesegh now leads the WCL in batting average, but no other qualified hitter in the lineup is hitting over .260.
But the big question is can the Port Angeles pitching staff go back to what made them have early season success?
Like game one, the Lefties were pounced on early and had the starting pitcher taken out after not making it out of the first inning.
Port Angeles put up a three spot in the fourth frame off of hits from Giesegh, Kosei Suzuki (Frank Phillips) and Jack Kleveno (University of Utah). Giesegh tallied his 19th RBI of the season when he drove home Suzuki, which is tied for second-most in the league.
This series has tested the Lefties like never before this season, causing the defense to make many mistakes. That came to a front in the home half of the fourth, as the HarbourCats came right back and scored four unearned runs to take the lead for good, capitalizing on a two-out error to extend the inning.
The Lefties (4-16) look to avoid the sweep tonight in game three before traveling to Edmonton to take on the Riverhawks.
