LEFTIES: Trio of homers upend Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles gave up three home runs to Victoria’s Isaiah Afework and were swept away 9-4 by Victoria in the third and final game Wednesday at Civic Field.

Cayden Munster and Afework each knocked solo home runs to put the HarbourCats up 2-0 in the second inning, and Victoria added four more in the fourth and fifth frames to go up 6-0.

The Lefties cut the lead in half with a three-run sixth inning. Garrett Patterson notched one of his three hits at the bottom of the Port Angeles batting order and the catcher came home when Taylor Kirk launched his second home run of the summer.

Two outs later, Sam Matosich sent a solo shot over the Civic Field Fence to trail 6-3. Patterson led off the seventh with another single, moved to second on Kirk’s single and scored on a Jack Edmunds RBI single to trim the lead to 6-4.

Afework added some insurance for Victoria with a two-run home run in the top of the ninth, his third of the night.

Port Angeles (12-21) had the night off Thursday and will open a three-game series with the Edmonton Riverhawks at Civic Field tonight at 6:35 p.m.
