LEFTIES: Three HRs not enough against Cowlitz

LEFTIES: Three HRs not enough against Cowlitz

Peninsula Daily News

LONGVIEW — The Lefties mustered up three home runs against the Black Bears, but their pitchers struggled, giving up 13 hits and seven walks in a 9-3 loss.

It was the most home runs the Lefties (9-13) have hit in a game all season. Michael Ciancio, Ian Nowak, Dutton Elske blasted the round-trippers, all solo shots. In the end, the Black Bears simply had too many baserunners — 22 — for the Lefties to keep up. Ciancio and Nowak smacked their home runs back-to-back in the ninth inning while Elske hit his in the fifth. Elske also had two hits in the game total as did Mitchell Hagan.

Starter Luke Fralely took the loss for the Lefties, while Corbin Powers for Cowlitz had an outstanding game, going seven innings, giving up six hits and one earned run and striking out nine Lefties.

The Lefties are struggling of late on the road, having gone 2-7 in their past nine road games. But, they are 5-4 at home and get 19 home games in July while only having to play seven games on the road.

The Lefties looked to salvage a win in their three-game series against the Black Bears on Sunday (after press deadline.) Today is an off day while the Lefties travel to Wenatchee to take on the AppleSox on Tuesday in the beginning of a three-game series.
