LEFTIES: Team back home at Civic Field for Fourth of July

BEND, Ore. — The Lefties return to Civic Field tonight after a long road trip they might just want to forget.

The Lefties went 1-8 on the trip, losing their final game against Bend Sunday 6-4.

This game was actually a pitchers’ duel until the seventh inning, as the Lefties’ Luke Fralely kept the Elks to a single run over six innings.

In the seventh, the Lefties plated four runs to take a 4-1 lead. Dutton Elske and Taylor Adams both got on base after getting hit by a pitch. Seth Freed drove in the Lefties’ first run of the game with a single, and Alex Junior drove in a second run on a fielder’s choice.

Brody Kato then drove in two more with a single.

But the Lefties gave the lead right back to Bend in the bottom of the seventh as the Elks scored four runs of their own to go ahead 5-4. The big blow came on a three-run home run by Colton Cosner. The Elks tacked on an insurance run in the eighth and closer Khalil Rivera got two strikeouts in the ninth inning to slam the door on the Lefties.

After traveling about 1,000 miles to Longview, Wenatchee, Bend, Ore., and then back to Port Angeles, the Lefties return to play at Civic Field at 6:35 p.m. today, hosting Gresham.

Notes

The West Coast League uses a split season schedule. The Lefties ended their first half of the season 10-17 and have started the second second 0-2. The Lefties, who have played well at home, get to play at home for 19 games in July.
