PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles held Kamloops to four hits, but the Lefties lost their third extra-inning game of the summer in a 4-2 defeat in 10 innings Wednesday at Civic Field.
Reliever Brock Mayer was tagged with the loss after tossing 3 1/3 strong innings.
Wes Peninger came on in relief of Mayer with two on and nobody out and allowed a two-run bloop single to center by Kamloops’ Casey Wayne to account for the winning runs.
Mayer entered the game with two on and nobody out in the seventh after Jamie Olson struggled to throw strikes for his second consecutive outing. Mayer inherited a 2-0 count, walked Gage Mestas, struck out Nolan Austin, Cooper Neville hit a sacrifice fly to center field to give the Northpaws a 2-0 lead, then Mayer induced a pop-up from Robin Villaneuve.
Port Angeles scratched back a run on Kyle Becker’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh and tied the game at 2-all when Chanz Doughty notched a line-drive RBI single through the left side of the infield to score Roberto Nunez in the eighth.
David Jeon earned the win after going two scoreless innings to finish the game for the Northpaws (9-28).
Lefties starting pitcher Colby Scheuber pitched well enough to earn the win, going six innings, allowing one unearned run on an error. He gave up one hit, walked four and struck out two.
Nunez, along with Lafayette College commit Ethan Young, each had two hits for Port Angeles (10-27), which lost its seventh straight contest.
The Lefties wrapped the home series with Kamloops late Thursday and will head to Kelowna for a road series Friday through Sunday.
