LEFTIES: Port Angeles snaps four-game losing skid with rally past Wenatchee

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles plated three runs in its final two turns at bat to snap a four-game West Coast League losing streak in an 8-7 win over the Wenatchee Apple Sox on Tuesday night at Civic Field.

After Wenatchee took a 7-5 lead with a four-run seventh, Port Angeles pulled a run back when Shea Thomas doubled to open the home half of the inning and came home on Coleman Schmidt’s second sacrifice fly of the game.

Thomas had a team-high three hits in the game.

Lefties catcher Jack Holman led off the bottom of the eighth with a bloop single into shallow center field and pinch runner Tommy Takayoshi advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Carson Crawford.

No. 9 hitter Nick Oakley came through at the bottom of the order, beating out a slow infield single at first base, and Takayoshi came home in the chaos with the tying run.

Luke Saunders then bunted himself aboard to bring Oakley 90 feet from home plate, and Oakley scored the eventual winning run on a passed ball.

Zach Thomas earned the win in relief, allowing two hits in 2-1/3 innings and striking out two batters. Thomas hit the first batter he faced in the final frame, but quickly got a fly out and forced Wenatchee into a 5-4-3 double play to close out the contest.

Port Angeles (7-12) hosts Wenatchee again tonight at 6:35 p.m.
