LEFTIES: Port Angeles scores its fourth straight win

PORT ANGELES — The good times are continuing to roll offensively for the Port Angeles Lefties.

Port Angeles earned its fourth-consecutive win with a come-from-behind 8-3 triumph over the Highline Bears in a nonleague game Wednesday at Civic Field.

The Lefties have scored 49 runs in those wins and won their last two series as a result.

Coleman Schmidt opened the scoring for Port Angeles when he doubled deep to left-center field and later scored on a throwing error in the third inning.

Lefties’ starter Joe Sinclair struck out eight in four innings on the mound, allowing one run on one hit and three walks.

Kaden Lewis came on in relief and struck out the side in the fifth inning before giving way to Luke Saunders who allowed two runs in the top half of the sixth as Highline went up 3-1.

Port Angeles catcher Tommy Takayoshi limited the damage with a heads-up snap throw to first base for an out after a failed Highline bunt attempt.

Port Angeles tied the game in the home half of the inning as Saunders led off with a single and moved to third on a pair of errors on a pickoff play. After a Corey Sanchez walk, Garrett Lake tied the game up with a two-run double down the right-field line. Later in the inning, Lake came home with the eventual winning run on a passed ball.

The Lefties added some insurance with a pair of runs on a walk and a sacrifice fly in the seventh and scored two more when a Bears’ balk brought home a run, and Zach Thomas followed with an RBI single in the eighth inning.

Port Angeles hosts the Northwest Honkers for a three-game nonleague series beginning tonight at 6:35 p.m.
