LEFTIES: Port Angeles playing spoiler in Edmonton series

Win series with Riverhawks

PORT ANGELES — Out of the playoff chase, but still playing spoiler, Port Angeles picked up a series win over Edmonton with a 5-3 win over the Riverhawks on Wednesday at Civic Field.

The loss kept Edmonton (23-26) a half-game back of Victoria (24-26) for the North Division’s fourth and final playoff berth.

Anthony Kodama supplied all the fireworks Port Angeles would need, hitting two doubles and driving in four runs on the night.

Kodama plated three runs with one swing and a little help with two outs in the bottom of the first.

His double to center field scored Adam Paganelli, who reached with a two-out single, and Aaron Greenfield, who walked. Kodama came home himself on a two-base error by the Riverhawks’ center fielder for a 3-0 lead.

Kodama’s eighth-inning double brought in Paganelli and Ethan Flodstrom, who reached via a walk.

The Riverhawks rallied in their last turn at bat, as Tom Poole’s RBI double and Emiliano Gonzalez’s two-out sacrifice fly pulled Edmonton within 5-3.

But Lefties reliever Andrew Hauck got Alex Stinnett to ground out to close out the contest.

Port Angeles (20-30) played its home finale Thursday night. The Lefties will play out the string this weekend on Vancouver Island with a three-game set with the Nanaimo NightOwls (19-32).
