LEFTIES: Port Angeles loses series finale in Walla Walla

WALLA WALLA — The Lefties got four-hit by a septet of Walla Walla pitchers and were unable to salvage a series win from the Sweets in a 6-3 loss Sunday night.

The Lefties returned home from their short road trip Monday for a 12-game homestand, their longest of the year. They will be playing all their games at Civic Field until June 27.

The Sweets went without a traditional starting pitcher in their Sunday getaway game, using an opener for two innings and seven pitchers total to keep the Lefties in check.

Port Angeles managed just four hits while striking out 10 times. One was a solo home run by Shea Thomas of Edmonds Community College. Garrett Lake (Purdue-Fort Wayne), Javy Espinosa (Saint Mary’s) and Carson Crawford (California) all had singles. Lake and Espinosa had RBIs and Espinosa added a pair of stolen bases.

Corey Sanchez of San Jose State started for the Lefties, giving up four earned runs in five innings. Justin Dunham (Dixie State) pitched a third of an inning and gave up two hits and two runs to take the loss.

Barron Holtz (North Dakota State), Tatsuya Uemoto (Edmonds CC) and Zack Thomas (Dixie State) pitched well in relief, going the final 2⅔ innings, giving up no hits and walking three.

The Lefties (3-6) begin a three-game series against Bellingham at 6:35 p.m. today against the Bells. People can also watch the game on Facebook Live at www.facebook.com/leftiesbaseball.
