LEFTIES: Port Angeles limited to three base hits in loss

Last game Thursday night 6:35 p.m.

PORT ANGELES — Four Cowlitz Black Bears pitchers combined to limit Port Angeles to three hits in a 7-2 West Coast League baseball win Wednesday at Civic Field.

The Lefties did score first, putting a run across in the bottom of the first inning when leadoff hitter Jared Bujanda was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on Jeremy Giesegh’s single and third when Roberto Nunez hit into a double play, eventually coming home on a wild pitch.

Cowlitz broke a 3-1 game open with a four-run eighth inning, taking advantage of a leadoff walk by Port Angeles pitcher Alec Hagopian and stringing together three straight singles to put one run across. Hagopian recorded a groundout and a strikeout but gave up a three-run double to Caleb Rozier on a 2-0 count to clear the bases.

Port Angeles got one run back when Giesegh also singled to open the bottom of the eighth and scored on a Cowlitz throwing error after a Wyatt Hall fielder’s choice.

Hall advanced to third, but Port Angeles couldn’t string together any more offense.

Gabe Bustamante had a solid relief outing for the Lefties, allowing one unearned run on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts in four innings on the hill.

Port Angeles (16-37) wrapped up its summer season late Thursday.
