LEFTIES: Port Angeles falls against Bellingham

BELLINGHAM — Port Angeles stumbled Sunday and dropped the second game of a three-game road series 7-4 to the Bellingham Bells at Joe Martin Field.

The Lefties took an early 1-0 lead when Sequim’s Evan Hurn doubled and was doubled home by Damiano Palmegiani.

Bellingham recorded four runs on nine hits in the game’s first five innings against Lefties starter Tyler Tan to take control.

The Bells’ lead grew to 6-1 through seven frames before the Lefties made a rally in the top half of the eighth inning.

Port Angeles cut the Bellingham advantage to 6-4 on a two-run single by Baxter Halligan and an RBI on a fielders’ choice by Nick DiPonzio.

The Lefties were unable to get any closer, however, and the Bells added an insurance run when leadoff hitter Collin Burns tripled and scored on a Jack Machtolf single.

Burns was a pest all game for Port Angeles, going 4 for 5 with two runs.

Port Angeles mustered seven hits in the game, led by two apiece from Palmegiani and shortstop Trevor Rosenberg.

The Lefties played Bellingham late Monday and will open a three-game road series at Kelowna tonight at 6:35 p.m.
